Helpers, One to Another!

While the scripture admonishes us when we fast not to broadcast it or appear to be fasting; there is something to be said for a corporate fast. Knowing that others are going through the same or similar experience keeps you motivated, and knowing that you are with others, there is a measure of accountability that can keep you through the temptations.

We are indeed helpers, one to another. Yet we are not to be judges. This is sometimes a hard thing to do because we feel as if everyone who names the Name of Christ should have what they need to do what they need to do. Paul addresses this in 2 Corinthians 1:24 (MSG):

24 We’re not in charge of how you live out the faith, looking over your shoulders, suspiciously critical. We’re partners, working alongside you, joyfully expectant. I know that you stand by your own faith, not by ours.

When the deal goes down, although it’s so good to have people to "do life with", ultimately it’s up to us to stand on our own faith. We can have many working with us, encouraging us to go on, praying with us for strength, being there in times of trial. Yet, again, when everyone else speaks, it’s our YES that makes the difference in our lives. I used to tell my children all the time, while I would that they would do good, the life they save will be their own.

As we continue in this year, not just during a time of consecration, not just during a time of revival, not even just in a time of testing – let us pray for one another, let us help one another, let us encourage one another and most of all let us pray for each of us to have the strength we need to always give God an unqualified "YES"!
