It’s Me Lord, is That OK?
Most of us as believers anyway, recognize that it is an awesome privilege to come before a holy God. We feel as if we should be fit to come before Him, and when we don’t feel as if we are on are "A" game, we tend to shrink back. Our times of prayer become shorter and fewer and so do our times of worship. While we may fake it in the assembly, it’s our quiet times that go sorely lacking. For it in those times that we know better than anyone who the real "me" is.
How does God feel about us coming to Him with our raggedy lives? Let’s face it, even though we have come to Christ in the pardon of our sins one day, our next day may fall really short of what a Christian ought to be. We’re going to take a look at some of these issues that plaque believers this week, starting with coming to Him in prayer and worship.
As I stated, we don’t usually mind raising our voices and hands before Him in corporate worship, but what about when it’s just us, and Him?
It’s who you are and the way you live that count before God. Your worship must engage your spirit in the pursuit of truth. That’s the kind of people the Father is out looking for: those who are simply and honestly themselves before him in their worship. John 4:24 (MSG)
This passage starts out stating that issue we all face from time to time, is my living such that pleases God? If we stop there we might just give up on worship and watch t.v.; yet the scripture continues with an admonition to take our spirit on a "pursuit for truth". That does not mean we have arrived at some know-it-all destination; we are on a journey and that journey begins with us "simply and honestly" being ourselves – who we are now, who we are today. Yes, coming before a Holy God, but not in arrogant and pompous ceremony, but in true repentance and humility. Who we are, just as we are. John 6:37-39 (MSG) states:
Every person the Father gives me eventually comes running to me. And once that person is with me, I hold on and don’t let go. I came down from heaven not to follow my own whim but to accomplish the will of the One who sent me.
This, in a nutshell, is that will: that everything handed over to me by the Father be completed—not a single detail missed—and at the wrap-up of time I have everything and everyone put together, upright and whole.
There it is, in the RED; so come, come into His presence, it’s O.K.!
