There is a Better Way!
Unfortunately in this current season we are living in a society that is on the edge. Tension, strife, hostility are on the surface waiting to break out – whether it is by thought, word, or deed. There is a better way. The Spirit of God living within you longs to work itself out of you in all that you say and do:
5 Be wise when you engage with those outside the faith communityand every encounter. 6 When you speak the word, speak it gracefully (as if seasoned with salt), so you will know how to respond to everyone rightly. Colossians 4:5-6 (THE VOICE)
As believers we are always conscious that we have a choice. We can respond to someone as they respond to us, or we can chart a different course. We can speak with humility and grace – considering others as we speak and as we act and choosing to be a peacemaker, not a peace breaker. That does not mean we compromise our values, or give ascent to that which is wrong. Railings and accusations rarely prove a point. Listening to the one speaking and then listening to the Holy Spirit as to how we should respond, (if it is even necessary) is essential to living out our faith.
Jesus said:
"Listen carefully: I am sending you out like sheep among wolves; so be wise as serpents, and innocent as doves [have no self-serving agenda].Matthew 10:16 (AMP)
While it is easier to try to set people straight and cry out against blatant misconceptions, our goal as believers is not to get folks "told" – but to get folks "right" – there is a better way!
