Every Now and Then…

Every now and then a breath from heaven blows our way- it is not asked for, yet when it comes, it so satisfies the longing of our souls that we wonder why we didn’t ask. Such was the case this morning during prayer. The only response that can be given is:

Whom have I in heaven but you?
I desire you more than anything on earth. Psalm 73:25

When the glory of God falls upon us we know that there is nothing that satisfies like HIs presence. There is nothing on earth that can compare to the satisfaction of basking in His presence.

We falter and fluter through life, trying to accomplish, trying to achieve, trying to excel and make our mark. Yet one day our time will be spent and the only question to be resolved is not "what did you do on earth", but "what did you do to prepare for your departure form earth?" All the scrambling we do to make our way will not be able to answer that question. The only acceptable response is

8 In fact, it says,

"The message is very close at hand;
it is on your lips and in your heart."

And that message is the very message about faith that we preach:

9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. Romans 10:8-10 (NLT)

If we believe this, if we follow this admonition, we will experience not just a momentary touch of God’s glory, we will live eternally in that glory; not just every now and then
