Listening…
It’s been about a week since I last wrote a post. Some of the time couldn’t be helped with traveling. However, there have been a few days when I set down to type and there was nothing that came to mind. I would try to start a topic and I would have to erase it – it just wasn’t there. At times like this I have learned that the best thing to do is to put aside everything and listen. Writing meaningless words is not beneficial to anyone, so I wait:
"So, my dear friends, listen carefully; those who embrace these my ways are most blessed. Mark a life of discipline and live wisely; don’t squander your precious life. Blessed the man, blessed the woman, who listens to me, awake and ready for me each morning, alert and responsive as I start my day’s work. When you find me, you find life, real life, to say nothing of God‘s good pleasure. But if you wrong me, you damage your very soul; when you reject me, you’re flirting with death." Proverbs 8:32 (MSG)
The words of the wise teacher – "listen!" As God begins His day each morning, coming before Him and listening is every bit as important as taking in your daily meal (reading the scriptures). When you hear nothing, taking in the nourishment of the Word of God will bring you into a place where you can listen. Sometimes there are roadblocks and other barriers that keep us from hearing the Voice of the Lord. We may have been striving with ourselves, or others. We may be consumed with something that we want, to the extent that we crowd out what God may have for us. We may allow past failures and sins to block us from believing that God wants to bless us. The bottom line is when we posture ourselves to hear from God, He wants to communicate with us to such an extent, that He will get His message to us. For as the scripture says, when you find God, you find "real life" and "God’s good pleasure;
We’re well into the month of January now. We have made our lists of goals, dreams and desires. We have started (and maybe stopped) our new health plan – we maybe have been determined to live a more disciplined life with all the best of intentions. Wherever you find yourself today, sit up, take notice, God wants to speak – so listen.
