The Whisper That Shook Nations!

What we see before us today on the governmental horizon is something that looks like it is impossible to fix. We see decades of corruption that have created such entrenched darkness that appears as if it cannot be altered. However, we forget Who sits on the throne over all the kingdoms of this world:

11 The Lord said, "Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by."

Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lordwas not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 13 When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave.

Then a voice said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?"

14 He replied, "I have been very zealous for the Lord God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, torn down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too."

15 The Lord said to him, "Go back the way you came, and go to the Desert of Damascus. When you get there, anoint Hazael king over Aram. 16 Also, anoint Jehu son of Nimshi king over Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel Meholah to succeed you as prophet.1 Kings 19:11-16 (NIV)

Elijah thought he was hiding from Jezebel, but in fact He wa hiding from God. God spoke to Him and told him that He was going to pass by. First came a mighty wind, second an earthquake, and then finally a fire. But God was not in any of those attention-getters. God could have been missed, for when Have came He came in a "gentle whisper".

God who knows all things, asked Elijah what was he doing in a cave? After Elijah’s response, God didn’t reprimand him or taunt him for not having enough faith – instead, he re-commissioned him to do what He had called him to do in the first place – God sent Elijah to anoint two kings and. a prophet – changing not just their lives but the lands they represented.

We, in this nation need to get out of our caves- and stop listening to the thunder of the six o’clock news; stop reacting to the earthquakes of Twitter and Instagram; and stop believing that every fire shown by the media reeks inevitable destruction. We must get out of our caves, and hear the gentle whisper of God – "Pray without ceasing" – and watch nations change.
