There’s A Whole Lot of Shaking Going On!

One thing I think we can all agree on, that today there is a whole lot of shaking gong on! There appears to be no permanence any where! If it’s not the government, it’s the schools; if it’s not the news programs, it’s the entertainment industry. According to most statistical agencies, the divorce rate is approximately 42% of those that marry, and this does not take into consideration those who legally separate. Wherever you look for institutions to stay in tact, whay ou see are those institutions in some kind of flux.

Hebrews 12 tells us:

25 Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking. For if the people of Israel did not escape when they refused to listen to Moses, the earthly messenger, we will certainly not escape if we reject the One who speaks to us from heaven! 26 When God spoke from Mount Sinai his voice shook the earth, but now he makes another promise: "Once again I will shake not only the earth but the heavens also." 27This means that all of creation will be shaken and removed, so that only unshakable things will remain. Hebrews 12:25-27 (NLT)

This passage gives reference to the Israelites who became terrified when they came to Mt. Sinai and they beheld a frightful sight, fire, darkness, and strong winds and in the midst of that a voice that was so terrible they begged Moses to make it stop. In the above passage of scripture however, the writer of Hebrews is taking about another mountain, Mt. Zion – a mountain where the city of God is, the new Jerusalem, where the angels have gathered in assembly. In fact it states that at this mountain is where God Himself reigns! And in verse 25, it urges us not to refuse listening to the One, who is speaking from that mountain, for that One is God Himself – speaking to us from heaven – letting us know that when He was speaking at Mt.Sinai – the earth shook, but this time, God declares He is going to shake both heaven and earth – and with this shaking that all creation will feel it, and only those things that are unshakeable will remain.

This verse concludes by saying:

28 Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe. 29 For our God is a devouring fire. Hebrews 12:28 (NLT)

Granted everyone does not hear the voice of God. Yet, for those of us who purport to be Christians, we have the capacity to hear HIs voice. And upon hearing HIs voice we should take note that there is a day coming, when the earth will tremble with a great shaking and we should be prepared to bless God with the kind reverence that recognizes that God is also a consuming fire.
