This is something To Be Grateful For!
There are said to be over 3, 573 promises in the Bible. Some accounts cite more than that. Scholars remind us that the promises of the Old Testament are relative to God’s chosen people, the Israelites. What I feel is that there are some promises that transcend the wilderness, the captivity, the return from Babylon – they are for God’s chosen people, no matter what dispensation they find themselves in. Such is a promise that I like to claim in Isaiah 54:
This exile is just like the days of Noah for me:
I promised then that the waters of Noah
would never again flood the earth.
I’m promising now no more anger,
no more dressing you down.
For even if the mountains walk away
and the hills fall to pieces,
My love won’t walk away from you,
my covenant commitment of peace won’t fall apart."
The God who has compassion on you says so. Isaiah 54:10 (MSG)
I believe when God said in the days of Noah that He would never again destroy the world by flood; and I believe that the anger of the Lord will be refrained from HIs love ever walking away from me. Sending His only begotten Son, Jesus to pay the price for our sins satisfied all the requirements of the law to set me and you free. All we have to do is accept that which God has provided for us. Therefore, even if mountains start walking, or hills fall down, God’s love and mercy will yet prevail. How comforting on this Thanksgiving that we can celebrate the promise that God’s mercy does not run out.
It’s also good to know that if we dig in and search, we will find over 3,572 more promises in God’s Word just as good!
