What’s the Point – Really?
Day after day we go through life and some of us are so focused and assured that we know our mission that we keep right on going like the energizer bunny. Others of us, being more short-sighted stumble through this life and sometimes we feel like we’re on target, and other times we wonder… For those of us in that category, the question that pops up from time to time is, what is the point of all this? Really, why are struggling? This is not a bad question, in fact, it is a very good question and Peter (known to stumble a few times himself) answers it:
9-10 But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.1 Peter 2:9-10 (MSG)
This is what it is all about. We have been hand=picked by God, and if that is not enough we are called to the level of the priest! We’re not called to live an ordinary life, but to be a "holy people" – known for reflecting the character of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are never without purpose for we are "God’s instuments" – specially designed to do what He has called us to do; to say what He has called us to say: and most of all to be a "living epistle" of someone who has been turned around with a "night-and-day difference". We were at the bottom of the heap and He raised us up to be at the top!
Unless you realize that prior to finding Christ, you were a wretch undone, these words mean nothing to you. However, when you recognize not only were you not worth saving, but you also were certainly not worthy for someone who did no sin, to die for your sins, this is a game-changer! You were nobody and now you’re somebody! You were worthless and now your life is more precious than gold.
Certainly this can get a hallelujah out of you. Put a little more pep in your step. Hold your head a little higher. Make you a little bolder to tell others, "listen, this happened to me, it can happen to you too!" This is the kind of present to give this Christmas.
