Letting Go, Taking Inventory!
The countdown has begun, two more days and we will enter into a whole new decade. I so remember the anxiety that preceded the advent of this century. Were the clocks that had been set going to reset? What would happen to all the computerized mechanisms (and by then everything was computerized)! 1999 left out at the stroke of midnight in countries in the Pacific Ocean that were close to the International Date Line – the millennium of 2000 began!
So too will 2019 end, and 2020 will begin. Yet, will your letting go of the things from that decade, be as celebratory as ushering in the new decade? While most of us probably made more decisions that we wish we hadn’t in 2010 and beyond, we made them – we made the dougnuts – we earned the fluff. Whatever your net return – own it, declare it, and let it go! You can’t adequately go forward, while looking back.
What we all can do is take inventory of what we have that is net – worthy. While it may seem like an oxymoron to say you have a multiplicity of riches after all the Christmas shopping, take a look at this:
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33 (NIV)
Even if your bank account is zero, you have a promise here that can carry you through anything and everything you will face in the years to come. Yes, there are going to be bills; yes, there is going to continue to be governmental conflicts; racial tensions; economic woes – but through it all, Jesus said that He would give us "peace". And not only peace, but also the ability to overcome any and all that the world throws at us. If Bill Gates told us that he would vouch for all of your outstanding debt – you would get excited. What about the Creator of it all telling you that there is nothing that He won’t be there with you, won’t take you through, and bring you out victoriously! Sounds like a better deal to me. Let us make a determination in this new decade to work less:
For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest…Hebrews 4:10-11a (KJV)
