His’ Yes’, Needs Your ‘Yes’!
Through the miraculous medium of streaming, I was able to be. a witness to the Homegoing Celebration of Dr. Lois Evans, wife of the renowned Dr. Tony Evans. I recommend watching this celebration, not only because she was a remarkable woman, but because the celebration has many things you can glean from. I’m not going to try to replicate any of it, except to say that the eulogy got my full attention.
One of my most quoted scriptures to God. when I’m trying. to. remind Him of what He has promised me is 2Corinthians 1:19-21:
19 Jesus Christ is the Son of God, and he is the one whom Timothy, Silas, and I have preached to you—and he has never been both a "yes" and a "no." He has always been and always will be for us a resounding "YES!" 20 For all of God’s promises find their "yes" of fulfillment in him. And as his "yes" and our "amen" ascend to God, we bring him glory!
21 Now, it is God himself who has anointed us. And he is constantly strengthening both you and us in union with Christ.(TPT)
I was taught to give God His Word when you pray, and here it is, "all of God’s promises find their "yes" of fulfillment in him." Now it may be stretching it a bit to think that means that everything God has promised in His Word is for me, but I figure, why not take a stab at it, because there are many other scriptures that go along with this to justify my position. Upon closer examination however, I see that the "yes" of God’s promises are embodied in Jesus, and more so that "His Yes" and our "amen (so be it)" both must go up to God in order for Him to get the glory.
If you will pardon my primitive line of reasoning here, it seems as if there is a partnership that is flowing between the ‘yes’ of Jesus and our ‘yes’ – and that it may take some communication to be sure that both of us are saying ‘yes’ to the same thing! If Jesus is never both a ‘yes’ and. a ‘no’ – what does that really mean? Does that mean. we always get everything our finite mind desires, with never a refusal on His part? Or, because we know in part, that perhaps when He says. ‘yes’ that it is still a ‘yes’ even if it doesn’t look like our ‘yes’?
While this may be too heavy to run through this line of reasoning this early in the morning, I encourage you to think on it a minute – the same air we breathe can turn into snow, or run down the hills in a waterfall. The same ‘yes’ to a driving permit at age 16 will certainly not be a ‘yes’ at aged 8. The same God you can’t see because He is a Spirit so vast nothing can contain Him, can come into your little heart, and with your permission can encourage you to believe for a mountain to fall into the sea. Are. you tracking here, our yes’ may not look like His, nor may be a ‘yes’ today – but will be later – so really they are both still YES!
As you pray, perhaps there is more needed to understand that God really is always giving His ‘yes’?
