On Taking Steps!

The way to get to any destination is to start out taking a step. One step, and then another – though the road be short or long – you will only get there by taking one step at a time. Thinking about steps spiritually, the same theorem does not apply. For we take a step, maybe two, maybe a hundred – and then something happens and we falter and slide down – whereas a destination may have been in sight – no longer is it in sight – it can even seem to be so far as to have never been in view.

Going to the scripture however I was reminded of something:

I will never lose sight of your love for me. Your faithfulness has steadied my steps.Psalm 26:3 (TPT)

This passage reminded me that even if I lose sight of "my" destination – I can never, ever lose sight of the love God has for me. For whether I walk, glide, or fail – God’s faithfulness has been consistent, and no matter how my stance is, He has "steadied my steps" where I get back upright and journey on. I am amazed at things that have seemed to be good quitting places, places where I should have thrown in the towel and forgot it – after a moment’s rest – up I go to it again. I forget the pain, the embarrassment, even the loss. – and up I go – ready to begin again.

Another Psalm speaks more even clearer:

The steps of the God-pursuing ones follow firmly in the footsteps of the Lord, and God delights in every step they take to follow him. Psalm 37:23 (TPT)

This passage reminds me that every step I take and even where I fall, God is delighting in them, if I am following Him. His roadmap is never a straight line on a level path; His rejoicing is not at the finish line, but at every juncture where a seemingly insurmountable roadblock is before me and I don’t shrink from it, rather I ask Him to take me through. This puts the importance of steps to a higher degree of importance. For it is not in the number we take, but in the number we shape:

14 As God’s obedient children, never again shape your lives by the desires that you followed when you didn’t know better. 15 Instead, shape your lives to become like the Holy One who called you. 1 Peter. 1:14-15 (TPT)

Thanking God for His Steps,
Maria
