Do You Need Him to Holler?

Have you ever felt like God wasn’t speaking to you? That no matter how much you pray, your prayers seem to be hitting the walls?  At times like this do you seem to get immobile? You don’t want to make a mistake, so you don’t do anything. Well, if this describes you, you are in company with the Israelites as they ventured from Egypt onto the road to the Promise Land.  The Red Sea in front, the Egyptians behind, stubborn stiff-necked people all around you. It was not enough that God delivered them through all the plagues that hit Egypt; or that He miraculously softened Pharaoh’s heart to finally let them go; or that He gave them such a spirit that they plundered their neighbors with all the riches of Egypt. With all that God had done here they were questioning Moses again and crying out to him to let them return to be slaves in Egypt.

Moses then implores the Lord, asking him what to do with this people. The following verses are God’s reply:

¹⁵ Then the Lord said to Moses, "Why are you crying out to me? Tell the people to get moving! ¹⁶ Pick up your staff and raise your hand over the sea. Divide the water so the Israelites can walk through the middle of the sea on dry ground. ¹⁷ And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they will charge in after the Israelites. My great glory will be displayed through Pharaoh and his troops, his chariots, and his charioteers. ¹⁸ When my glory is displayed through them, all Egypt will see my glory and know that I am the Lord!"Exodus 14:15-18 (NLT)

God seems to be raising His voice in impatience! He had empowered Moses to lead, He had blessed the people to benefit from Moses’ leadership. What was the problem?

I am sure that God feels the same way about us today. He has brought us out of a world of sin and bondage. He. has blessed us immeasurably with all that we need. He has even shared His power with us, through the indwelling Holy Spirit. Yet, we remain immobile. Looking. for a sign in the sky. Looking for a voice to speak from Heaven. Or maybe, we want another burning bush to confront us.

Have you got a Red Sea in front of you? Have you got some Egyptians on your trail? Maybe they’re not soldiers in uniform, but they are bills past due. Maybe they are an unreasonable boss, or a difficult neighbor, or even closer – maybe they are folks in your house that don’t want to respect your house. Whatever the case, look around you, there’s a rod somewhere that if you put it in your hand, either the Red Sea will part, or the Egyptians will flee. How do I know, the Bible tells me so:

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things thatpertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 2 Peter 2;3 (NLT)
