God is Concerned About Germs…

A possible global epidemic is upon us. Suddenly without warning as a people across the world we are contending with something called the coronavirus. While the Feds prepare for President Trump to declare an emergency, Queen. Elizabeth is wearing clothes to attempt to offset any exposure to the virus brought to Buckingham Palace. There is concern everywhere, with schools closing and people wearing masks in.pubic places. I am not trying to judge them. An infection that has gone viral is something we all need to take note of. However, this is not the first "viral" germ and it won’t be the last. God has always been trying to warn us about germs:

10 If you touch anything that was under the man, you will be unclean until evening. You must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening. 11 If the man touches you without first rinsing his hands, you must wash your clothes and bathe yourself in water, and you will remain unclean until evening. 12 Any clay pot the man touches must be broken, and any wooden utensil he touches must be rinsed with water. Leviticus 10-12 (NLT

There are germs. everywhere, but certain germs are more dangerous than others. When they begin to multiply in public  places it should be of concern to us all.

However, germs that attack the body are only one thing we should be concerned about. There are germs that attack our soul, they are called sin. And just as concerned as we are about our physical health, we should also be concerned about our spiritual health:

Hold this man’s conduct up to public scrutiny. Let him defend it if he can! But if he can’t, then out with him! It will be totally devastating to him, of course, and embarrassing to you. But better devastation and embarrassment than damnation. You want him on his feet and forgiven before the Master on the Day of Judgment.

6-8 Your flip and callous arrogance in these things bothers me. You pass it off as a small thing, but it’s anything but that. Yeast, too, is a "small thing," but it works its way through a whole batch of bread dough pretty fast. So get rid of this "yeast." Our true identity is flat and plain, not puffed up with the wrong kind of ingredient. The Messiah, our Passover Lamb, has already been sacrificed for the Passover meal, and we are the Unraised Bread part of the Feast. So let’s live out our part in the Feast, not as raised bread swollen with the yeast of evil, but as flat bread—simple, genuine, unpretentious. 1 Corinthians (MSG)

Just as the Apostle Paul gave warning about the grievous sin that took place in Corinth, so too, should we be giving warning about the many grievous sins that  are affecting our society today. Sin has a potential to infect everyone exposed to it
