What Can You Do For Community Today?

After God created man and woman, He created family. After family, He developed community. And to reiterate how important that was, after the Holy Ghost fell, He emphasized once again, community:

² All the believers were one in mind and heart. Selfishness was not a part of their community, for they shared everything they had with one another. ³³ The apostles gave powerful testimonies about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great measures of grace rested upon them all. Acts 4:32-33 (TPT)

This is the type of community that God wants, a selfless community, sharing with one another. It begs the question for all of us. In this time of social distancing, what can we do for community today? What selfless act can we perform? Each of us has unique talents and abilities. Each of us has a different bent toward life. Yet, if each of us used our various and unique abilities in one small way today, how much difference that can make. 

There is no doubt some of us are getting a little stir crazy. Many of our children are getting discouraged, bored, and probably a little disobedient (smile). Depending on how active your family was before, the effects of being closed in are probably overwhelming. There are people however, who are confined every day – in nursing homes, in prisons, in abusive situations. What if we all took a few moments today to pray for them? What if we could figure out one way we could be a blessing to at least one family? What if we wrote letters? What about making a call to someone you haven’t talked to in a while. What about asking your pastor if there is someone who would be glad to get a call form you today?

This pandemic will pass. One day this will be a distant memory. Yet, what we may do today for someone else may be a lasting memory that they will never forget, maybe even a life altering moment that will change their lives forever.
