Do You Want Justice, Or Something More?

As the demonstrations continue across our country, there is a resounding cry for justice to be served. This is a noble cause, however is justice enough? Once the blood guiltiness is satisfied in one situation, there is always another. Could it be that we want more than justice?

24 And we have come to Jesus who established a new covenant with his blood sprinkled upon the mercy seat; blood that continues to speak from heaven, "forgiveness," a better message than Abel’s blood that cries from the earth, "justice." Hebrews 12:24 (TPT)

When Cain killed Abel, his blood cried out from the earth for justice. Cain was found guilty. Yet the God of all mercy heard from a sorrowful Cain that his punishment would surely get him killed. That God of mercy put a mark upon Cain to set hm apart, to prevent him from being destroyed.

You see there is something that is greater than justice, it’s called forgiveness. When God exacts forgiveness on a person, He doesn’t leave that person to be executed with justice alone. In His mercy He provides a way of escape, that the person will be able to bear it.

When horrific things occur such as we have witnessed more than once this year in our nation, it is very human that justice be demanded. However, no matter how many judges and juries there are to try and convict, the only real chance for true and effective change is when we pray for  God’s Spirit to reach one heart at a time with the message of forgiveness. Not just the forgiveness of one’s person’s actions, but the forgiveness of a people who refuse to live any longer with sin dominating their thoughts and actions and are willing to turn to a God who will mercifully pardon their sins, cleanse their heart, and bring them  genuine love for mankind.
