One Thing I’ve Learned, Through It All!
As you begin to get a little older, the list of things that you are concerned about begins to decrease. You begin to concentrate on those things that are really important to you.You cease to be an "expert" on everything, and confess that there are only a few things that you are really confident in. So, in the event that a younger person should ask you a question like, "what are the most important life lessons you’ve learned?", it won’t take you all day to answer.
David, was still a young man when he was fleeing from Saul, but there were some things that he had gained confidence in knowing:
Yet I totally trust you to rescue me one more time,
so that I can see once again how good you are while I’m still alive!
14 Here’s what I’ve learned through it all:
Don’t give up; don’t be impatient;
be entwined as one with the Lord.
Be brave and courageous, and never lose hope.
Yes, keep on waiting—for he will never disappoint you. Psalm27:13-14 (TPT)
Running from King Saul out in the wilderness had made him an expert on dependinig on God. He knew that his limited forces were no match for the skill of the army of Israel. Yet, time after time, God gave David strategy to outwit the King’s army. Twice, David had King Saul in position to kill him and he spared his life, refusing to touch God’s anointed.
We see that he learned another valuable lesson, one that it usally takes many years to learn, "don’t give up; don’t be impatient, be entwinedf s one with the Lord"… and finally "keep on waiting – for he will never disappoint you". This sounds like the wisdom of an aged sage, not a young man still on the run! Yet, David had become "entwined as one with the Lord" and he realized that his times and his seasons were in God’s hands. He learned this also through experiene, an experience all of us can learn:
Even in times of trouble we have a joyful confidence, knowing that our pressures will develop in us patient endurance. 4 And patient endurance will refine our character, and proven character leads us back to hope. 5 And this hope is not a disappointing fantasy, because we can now experience the endless love of God cascading into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us!
