Reflections on the Last Day of Summer…

We, in the Midwest have already had a few cool days. If the weather is any indication, we might be looking at an early onslaught of winter. An early winter might bring about an early bought of the flu. Coupled with the covid crisis, it could make you wonder, can things get any worst?

Well, that’s one way to look at it. Another way is this:

Bright eyes and a cheerful expression bring joy to the heart, and good news revives the spirit and renews health. Proverbs 15:30

Having the brightness that comes with faith in God, radiates from the inside, out! Not only is there joy in your heart, but as this scripture indicates, it builds up your spirit and renews your health. Attitude really does determine your altitude! If we want to get through this winter season, no matter what challenges it brings, the very first thing we need to do is to have a merry heart, after all the scripture says so:

A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones. Proverbs 17:22

Covid-19 attacks the bronchial system, the very system that God breathed life into. Let us purpose in our heart that we are going to defy this attack with the Word just as Ezekiel saw in the valley of dry bones:

-2 God grabbed me. God‘s Spirit took me up and set me down in the middle of an open plain strewn with bones. He led me around and among them—a lot of bones! There were bones all over the plain—dry bones, bleached by the sun.

3 He said to me, "Son of man, can these bones live?"

I said, "Master God, only you know that."

4 He said to me, "Prophesy over these bones: ‘Dry bones, listen to the Message of God!’"

5-6 God, the Master, told the dry bones, "Watch this: I’m bringing the breath of life to you and you’ll come to life. I’ll attach sinews to you, put meat on your bones, cover you with skin, and breathe life into you. You’ll come alive and you’ll realize that I am God!" Ezekiel 37:1-6 (MSG)

As my mother used to say, "nothing beats a failure but a try". Let’s TRY God throughout this winter season, do some breathing some speaking, and some shouting for joy!
