A Few Reminders…

There are some things we need to be reminded of because our human nature is quick to overlook them. Things like:

Repeat these basic essentials over and over to God’s people. Warn them before God against pious nitpicking, which chips away at the faith. It just wears everyone out. Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won’t be ashamed of, laying out the truth plain and simple. Stay clear of pious talk that is only talk. Words are not mere words, you know. If they’re not backed by a godly life, they accumulate as poison in the soul.  2 Timothy 2:15 (MSG)

Essentially we need to remember that talk is cheap. It is one thing to say a thing, it is another to do it!; It is one thing to profess that Christ lives in, and He is our hope of glory; it’s quite another to walk this walk on a daily basis exhibiting the character of our Lord Jesus Christ. Thus, when the Apostle Paul admonishes young Timothy to remind God’s people of these things, he is laying out a blueprint for us all!

Paul goes on to say this in 1 Corinthians 15:33:

Don’t let yourselves be deceived. Talking about things that are not true is bound to be reflected in practical conduct. Come back to your senses, and don’t dabble in sinful doubts. Remember that there are men who have plenty to say but have no knowledge of God. You should be ashamed that I have to write like this at all! (PHILLIPS)

Our parents used to tell us that birds of a feather, flock together. We as human beings tend to assimilate with those we are around. We begin to take on expressions and mannerisms which can cause us to become corrupt in our own morals and communication.

This day we are living in is tainted with evil communication. Whereas there used to be respect for a position or office, there is no such respect. Whereas we might say, "people need to earn our respect"; what is God saying? How does He feel about our base conversation our expressions regarding dignitaries? How does He feel about he way we talk about leaders? For that matter, how does He feel about the way we talk about our enemies. There is still a passage in the Bible which says:

Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Lovey our enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: Matthew 5:43 (KJV)

When all is said and done:

There’s a way of life that looks harmless enough; look again—it leads straight to hell. Sure, those people appear to be having a good time, but all that laughter will end in heartbreak. Proverbs 14:12 (MSG)
