Coming Attractions!
Today we are going to look at one of my all-time favorite scriptures"
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 1 John 3:1-3 (KJV)
There it is, in the trusty KJV no less. No translation can improve on this fact that we have been given such to a love from the Father that we in all of our drama, have been made sons of God! Imagine that from reject to royalty – not because of some awesome feat that we performed, but because of the submissive obedience of Jesus the Christ! And the Word does not stop there, it assures us that we haven’t even touched on what is coming! We cannot in our wildest imagination determine what we are going to be when God finishes with us, but we know one thing for sure, we will be like Him!
John goes on to say that everyone who has this kind of hope in him purifies himself – the definition of purified is:
purified
adjective – 1. having had contaminants removed; cleansed
Which tells me that what the Father does for us is now that Jesus is no longer among us in his earthly presence, and we have the Holy Spirit abiding within us that He, the Holy Ghost removes contaminants – washing us, cleansing us, purifying us – until:
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20 (KJV)
If anyone has ever caught a glimpse of the raw power of God in action, then you know what kind of dunamos power we are dealing with. The power to take the worst sinner possible and turn them into a mild mannered lamb! And that mild-mannered lamb will love the Father so much that he will dedicate his life in service to the Father who gave him such a great gift.
This thing goes on – and on – and on , and we will reap a harvest of abundant blessings according to the faith we put in the finished atoning wrk of Christ. Further, make no mistake about it, as good as it is here on earth when you know Jesus the coming attractions of the other side our hope gets brighter knowing that because of who He is, it will be a forever ride of glory!
