As We Close 2020…

I don’t think there is anyone alive today who would choose to continue with 2020 – this is one new year that we will all rejoice to see! For with the new year coms new opportunities to write a different chapter, compose a new score, plant a new tree, love with more passion. 

Yet, if we look into the pages of God’s Word, there are promises that never grow old:

Stop dwelling on the past.
Don’t even remember these former things.
¹⁹ I am doing something brand new, something unheard of.
Even now it sprouts and grows and matures.
Don’t you perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
and open up flowing streams in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19 (TPT) 

We may not have deserts in the Midwest of the United States, but there are times when things seem so dry and barren that it seems like it. However, whether you have ever had a desert experience on not, there is one truth in this passage that fits all of us – "stop dwelling on the past"!  For unless our past brought us closer to the Savior, we need to do as Elsa sings in Frozen, "let it go"! We all need to look at the bells ringing in 2021 as a time of new beginnings – something brand new – something that will grow up strong and sturdy. We need to look for the remedy not the remnant. We need to look for the cure, not the cause! We need to believe the promises of God over the babble on the six o’clock news! 

For we serve a mighty God. He is mighty to save! He is mighty to deliver! And one of the best passages I read is:

Whatever God has promised gets stamped with the Yes of Jesus. In him, this is what we preach and pray, the great Amen, God’s Yes and our Yes together, gloriously evident. God affirms us, making us a sure thing in Christ, putting his Yes within us. By his Spirit he has stamped us with his eternal pledge—a sure beginning of what he is destined to complete.
