Does HE See?
There are so many conflicting situations today that takes a lot of faith not to wonder if God really is aware of everything that is going on. Does God really "see"? The pundits would love to convince us that the Intelligent Designer left everything created to operate according to the plan of man. That everything is up to the decisions of mankind to move earth’s inhabitants forward. Yet, we see a story of simple servant girl, who fled to the wilderness from the harsh hand of her mistress:
Then she called the name of the Lord who spoke to her, "You are God Who Sees"; for she said, "Have I not even here [in the wilderness] remained alive after seeing Him [who sees me with understanding and compassion Genesis 16:13 (AMP)
Hagar did the bidding of her mistress Sarai when she cohabitated with Sarai’s husband Abraham. She did not have part in the decision making. When she got pregnant however, she did have a part in getting haughty with her mistress. That haughtiness and pride led to Sarai issuing a strong hand against Hagar and Hagar running to the wilderness to flee her wrath.
In the wilderness, Hagar met someone who previously had not been visible to her. She met "the ONE who sees". Hagar recognized that even though she was a mere servant at the whim and wish of her mistress, that in the wilderness, she was a woman with child. That encounter caused Hagar to have hope for when she recognized that "the ONE who sees saw her’, He did not just her physical condition, He saw "her’ – "with understanding and compassion". Did you think grace only entered the world with Jesus? No. throughout time the God of creation has intervened into the hearts and lives of those who "see" Him, and are willing to receive His attributes.
The Spirt of the Lord told Hagar to return to her mistress and submit to her. This could not be done in her own strength – it takes a conversion experience to shake off the pride and arrogance and humble oneself under the hand of someone who not has not been kind to you. Yet, by the grace of God, Hagar was able to do this.
There is so much more to the story of Hagar, just as there is so much more to our story after we meet "the ONE who sees us". That divine connection spurs us into a new vision for life and living. And because He sees, we can rest assured, that there’s no conflict for which our God does not have a plan. There is no sickness, for which He does not have a healing balm; there Is no soul that goes unnoticed. We can trust that He sees!
