Messages From the Light!
This morning we’re still talking about sunshine. Even though as I look out of my window I see the gray, hazy clouds of winter, I know behind those clouds the sun is shining brightly. It never gets off of its’ post. As I imagine what it is has to say today, I imagine it’s something like what Solomon wrote so many years ago:
Oh, how sweet the light of day,
And how wonderful to live in the sunshine!
Even if you live a long time, don’t take a single day for granted.
Take delight in each light-filled hour,
Remembering that there will also be many dark days
And that most of what comes your way is smoke. Ecclesiastes 11:7-9 (MSG)
Yes, we love the sunshine – it cheers our heart and energizes our soul. Yet, sunshine or clouds, we should never take a single day of our God-given life for granted. Each day offers with it the promises of 24 hours of opportunity to do and to be something brand new! We are not unaware that some of those days and hours will be filled with things that hurt us, or cause us grief. Afflictions do come. Yet, even in those moments, if we reach up and keep reaching we will touch the hem of God, and it will carry us through those dark times.
Too many of us tend to spend much of our time looking at what could happen based on events that are best circumstantial. We worry about how we are going to pay bills not even yet due. We fret over diagnoses that have not considered the power of God to overrule and heal. We look at our children and wonder how they will ever get out of the mess that they are in; thinking their life is going downhill fast, we forget the many times our Father helped us to climb out of the pits we put ourselves in.
The light is speaking – beckoning us on into our day -saying,"come, drink of the water of life freely"! For as Jesus said:
"If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. John 15:7 ({KJV)
