This is Our Job!
Today the United States of America witnessed the swearing in of the 46th President. It was a peaceful transition of power, even though we know the days ahead will hold its’ challenges. That is why we went to the polls in November, to elect leaders who will act in our behalf. That is their job – to usher in policies that reflect the will of the people, and to enact laws that ensure that they are carried out. We, as the citizens of this nation have a job too, and this is our job:
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;1 Timothy 2:1-3 (KJV)
We have a job to intercede in behalf o four leaders, whether we voted for them, or not. We have a responsibility to pray and to offer them our support and good will. We are not going to engage in what was past. We are going to speak forth what should be for the days ahead.
In some ways all of us have gotten off course due to the politically divisive events that have occurred. While President Joe Biden spoke of the need for unity, we know that it is not something that is going to happen overnight. That does not deflect our mission. For our mission can begin this very day – this very hour… We can begin to pray and intercede that this nation would not be governed by the will of man alone, but by the will of God, who sees the end from the beginning. We can pray that the God who brought forth all creation, will not give up on His creation and allow His Spirit to continue to convict those who have wandered from His truth. We can "stand in the gap, and make up the edge’, for those who entertain ungodly policies that go against the well-being of this nation. As the people of God we have a job to do, and it is just as important as eery official that has been elected at the local, state, or national level. For without our prayers, today’s peace will turn into tomorrow’s chaos and confusion.
It is so good to know that we have indications in scripture that assure us that our prayers are not in vain:
Good leadership is a channel of water controlled by God
So we celebrate this nation that gives its’ people the opportunity to elect its’ leaders and we make a commitment as the people of God to seek blessings for the home He has given us.
