Can We Agree?

One of the best sayings I heard many years ago came from a Mother who was the founder of a church, who gave to her son who was the Pastor. She said, "I don’t agree with you, but I respect you so I will hear what you have to say". Naturally, prayer took a deciding role in their decision. For we are all entitled to our opinion, but only One knows the best choice – and it’s not you neighbor!

Tonight HeartLife Ministries will host our annual New Year’s Prayer by way of Zoom. It will begin with worship at 6:45 p.m.CST. We are excited about the blessings that we believe will come from this evening of prayer. Jesus had much to say about prayer, but perhaps none more telling than this:

Again, I give you an eternal truth: If two of you agree to ask God for something in a symphony of prayer, my heavenly Father will do it for you. Matthew 18:19 (TPT)

Think of this, Jesus gave an "eternal truth", something that does not change with the ages. What I love about The Passion Translation is its’ use of figurative language – imagine being part of a "symphony of prayer". That means to me that even if we have variance on issue, but when we come together we bring our horns and cymbals and drums and violins and allow the Holy Spirit to blend it together in an harmonious melody of music, sweet to the soul and intense in the delivery.

Prayer involves talking to God, but it also involves us listening to Him. The Father throughout scripture pleads with us to listen to Him:

O that my people would once and for all listen to me
and walk faithfully in my footsteps, following my ways. Psalm 81:13 (TPT)

And Jesus said it best:

And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Luke 18:1 (KJV)
