The Blood Still Works!

One of the most exciting things about being a Christian is to know that the things that occurred in the Old Testament were not just good bedtime stories. They are prototypes for things that occurred in the New Testament and even today they stand as markers pointing us to the God that does the impossible.

For example, we are all familiar with the story of the Israelites being booted out of Egypt. Nine plagues had befallen them and still Pharaoh’s heart was hardened and he would not let Moses lead them out of Egypt to worship God. The final plague was the death of the firstborn in every home in Egypt. What a time of mourning! Yet, there was no mourning in Goshen, for every Israelite had been instructed to kill a sacrificial lamb and apply the blood of that lamb to their doorposts. Moses let them know what God said:

The blood shall be a sign for you on [the doorposts of] the houses where you live; when I see the blood I shall pass over you, and no affliction shall happen to you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. Exodus 23:13 (AMP)

This was the final straw for Pharaoh – he let the children of Israel go!

In the New Testament, we know that Jesus was the sacrificial lamb whose sins delivered us from the penalty of sin which is death. We know that the blood of Jesus washes us clean and frees us from the guilt and shame of sin. What we don’t always realize is that the blood does more than that. We see in Exodus 23:13 that it states…”no affliction shall happen to you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt’. I take that as a Word that no matter what is going on around us, when God sees the blood of Jesus applied to our hearts that no – thing, no – affliction will happen that will destroy us. We are covered with the blood of Jesus.

Notice it says, “no affliction will happen to destroy you”. Psalm 34:19 tells us that afflictions would come:

Many hardships and perplexing circumstances confront the righteous, But the Lord rescues him from them all. (AMP)

This is a sure word of prophecy for me. I hold fast to it when circumstances and afflictions overwhelm me, because I believe, the blood still works!
