This Isn’t About Candy and Flowers!
Sunday is Valentine’s Day. For some it is a time of celebration, for others a time of grief – once again they have to face the fact that they have no one to share this special day with.
Yet, Valentine’s Day is about recognizing the kindness and love of a man named Valentine:
Love joyfully celebrates honesty and finds no delight in what is wrong. Love is a safe place of shelter, for it never stops believing the best for others. Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up.1 Corinthians 13:6-7 (TPT)
Just as the legendary first St. Valentine while facing execution extended kindness to those in his prison quarters, so the above verse reminds us all that love is shown in doing good deeds, providing whatever good deeds you can, and especiially never giving up on people.
While the commercialization of Valentine’s Days emphasizes the candy and flowers and diamonds, the heat of Valentine’s Day is to express the God-kind of love to a s many as you can.
Thus we can be an active participant in Valentine’s Day, single or married; eligible or taken; because love is something everyone of us can give and everyone of us receive.
