Prayer…

I can hear the words of the song ringing in my spirit:

What A Friend We Have in Jesus

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer

Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged
Take it to the Lord in prayer

Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

These words so true, yet so often overlooked, I must confess even in my own life.

Yesterday I saw a program on television that showed me how very mixed up our nation has become. While on the surface it appeared to be concerned about profiling and equity, the issues they brought up were so convoluted that it was hard to believe that intelligent people wrote the script.

This is not unusual. By infiltrating our minds and hearts with what looks like equity and fairness, we grow accustomed to strange bedfellows. Everything is accepted because everyone should be accepted.

The scripture text before me this morning was from Jeremiah 29:11-13:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Prayer for something, without seeking the God of everything is futile.

Selah,

Maria
