Remaining Confident!

Yesterday we began a conversation about being confident in God. Today we are going to look at a scripture in whichh the Psalmist declared he would remain confident:

When evil people come to devour me,
    when my enemies and foes attack me,
    they will stumble and fall.
³ Though a mighty army surrounds me,
    my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
    I will remain confident. Psalm 27:2-3 (NLT)

Have you ever been in a frightening situation where you knew that someone was after you? Someone you may not be able to see, but the thought of them was terrifying because their reputation preceded them. Here we find the Psalmist not only talking about this terrifying kind of scenario, but even worst he projected an ever worst fate, not just one or a few after him, but an entire army, surrounding him. What was David’s declaration – that even if they surrounded him, he would not be afraid; even if he was attacked, he would “remain confident”. Now this is someone who had bragging rights from experience, for no one could tallk so boldly unless they had an inside track into their protector.

King David is attributed to writing Psalm 27. If anyone had reason to make a declaration like this, he had one. Not because he was so brave, or so fortunate to experience only victory; David could say it because he had learned through one scrape after another to be confident in the Hand of God fighting for him. He was chased up one side of Israel to the other by King Saul. Even before he was anointed King, David had a resume that included killing a lion and a bear as he watched over his father’s sheep. He had a brash kind of confidence when he was a young lad, but after running from Saul for many years, and God delivering him from Saul’s hand over and over again, it is sure that David gained a solid confidence, trust, reliance on the Hand of God upon his life.

Our trials do that for us too! We are subject to trials and tests that have one main objective at least, and that is build up our confidence in God’s presence to be with us in any and all situations. In this was we can endure for;

 I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.2Timothy 1;12b (KJV)
