DEEP DOWN!

Have you ever felt so sure of something that you could declare with confidence that even though it had not happened already you were assured it was going to. Paul felt that way about some Galatians:

You were running superbly! Who cut in on you, deflecting you from the true course of obedience? This detour doesn’t come from the One who called you into the race in the first place. And please don’t toss this off as insignificant. It only takes a minute amount of yeast, you know, to permeate an entire loaf of bread. Deep down, the Master has given me confidence that you will not defect. But the one who is upsetting you, whoever he is, will bear the divine judgment. Galatians 5:10 (MSG)

Paul is looking at some of his converts just cutting up! They appeared to have fully grasped the truth of the gospel and then some charlatans came along and began to convince them that they needed to “add” to it! Scripture warns us of ‘taking away‘, or ‘adding to‘ the truth of His Word. God gives us what we need to come into fellowship with Him and we don’t need to accessorize it to win brownie points.

If you keep reading this passage however, Paul states with “confidence” that he was assured they would not buy into the okey-doke. He was not wavering as if to say, “what if’? Paul had an anointing from the Holy One that gave him a ‘deep down’ confidence that his converts would be alright.

This is what we need today. While we look at the swiftly moving changes trying to ‘cancel culture’ and come up with all kinds of ungodly practices, we need to make disciples who will be so fully convinced in the truth of the gospel that they will not be swayed with every alien practice and doctrine. It is a work – for the culture cancellers are persuasive, they clothe it in all kinds of things that get your attention and prey upon your emotions and your sense of justice.

Don’t be discouraged however, for “greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world”.1 John 4:4(KJV)
