Don’t Count Anyone Out!
We are looking at another interesting woman today. Someone you probably wouldn’t have taken a moment out of your time to meet in her day. She was by trade a prostitute. Yet, this prostitute heard of events taking place in her community and in those conversations she heard another voice:
8 Before the spies went to sleep that night, Rahab went up on the roof to talk with them. 9 “I know the Lord has given you this land,” she told them. “We are all afraid of you. Everyone in the land is living in terror. 10 For we have heard how the Lord made a dry path for you through the Red Sea[b] when you left Egypt. And we know what you did to Sihon and Og, the two Amorite kings east of the Jordan River, whose people you completely destroyed.11 No wonder our hearts have melted in fear! No one has the courage to fight after hearing such things. For the Lord your God is the supreme God of the heavens above and the earth below. Joshua 2:8 (NLT)
Of all the pagans in Canaan, this prostitute took heed to the voice inside of her saying that these Israelites were someone to fear. She recognized that there was more moving them than sheer ambition. She recognized that the Lord their God, the One over all the heavens and the earth was with them, and she wanted to be with them too! Without hesitation they granted her the request she asked of them.;that her and her family would be spared when they crossed over Jordan to take the city!
And just as Rahab discerned, the Israelites did cross over and take the city – and in so doing we read:
So Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute and her relatives who were with her in the house, because she had hidden the spies Joshua sent to Jericho. And she lives among the Israelites to this day. Joshua 6:25 (NLT)
What we see is that the same God who freed Mary Magdalene of multiple demons was at work in the days of Rahab. For Rahab married a prince of Israel, Salmon and take a look at his family tree:
18 Now these are the descendants of Perez: Perez was the father of Hezron, 19 Hezron was the father of Ram, Ram the father of Amminadab, 20 Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, 21 Salmon the father of Boaz, Boaz the father of Obed, 22 Obed the father of Jesse, and Jesse the father of David [the king of Israel and the ancestor of Jesus Christ]. Ruth 4:18-22 (AMP)
Don’t count out anyone – Jesus still saves!
