Don’t Despise Small Things…

Jesus spoke a word:

Mustard seeds are minute, tiny—but the seeds grow into trees. Flocks of birds can come and build their nests in the branches. Matthew 13:32 (The Voice)

We never know the extent of what God will do with a tiny thing. Mustard seeds are very small. To look at them you wouldn’t think they would become much of anything. Yet the average mustard tree grows between six and twenty feet tall, with a spread of twenty feet. Some mustard trees even grow to thirty feet! A whole lot of birds can build their nests in just one tree!

So too, it is with us. We may be small in what we feel we are able to accomplish. Sort of like the Israelite spies who Moses sent out to spy out he promised land:

And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

33 And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight. Numbers 13: 32-33 (KJV)

Ten of the twelve spies who scouted out the Promise Land drew consensus with the above report. While the inhabitants may have been big, and maybe even ferocious; one thing that could not be determined was how they felt about the Israelites. No one could attest to the Canaanites thinking that they were grasshoppers, just because the children of Israel felt like they were grasshoppers!

If ever there was a time to take courage it is now. There is lawlessness running rampant through our streets. The experts are still trying o scare us into believing Covid will be around a long time, even if it is in other mutations. You can run to your house to hide – and miss out living this great life God has given you; or, you can recognize that maybe the grasshopper you think you are looks like King Kong to your adversary!
