Staying the Course!

I heard a stirring speech today in the opening session of a class I am taking. While it was meant to be motivating, there were parts that sadly, rang all too true. The presenter gave a list of all the things that the Pandemic taught us, and that list would not have been complete without admitting that we all learned not to put off until tomorrow what needs to be done today. There are people we needed to call and talk to, bridges that needed mending, even new relationships that needed to be forged- that for all the good intentions of the world, you will never get the opportunity to do so, for they are no longer with us:

And now I have a word for you who brashly announce, “Today—at the latest, tomorrow—we’re off to such and such a city for the year. We’re going to start a business and make a lot of money.” You don’t know the first thing about tomorrow. You’re nothing but a wisp of fog, catching a brief bit of sun before disappearing. Instead, make it a habit to say, “If the Master wills it and we’re still alive, we’ll do this or that.” James 4:14 (MSG)

Are you familiar with this text from James? James points out what should be obvious to us, we can no more determine what will do tomorrow, any more than we can predict what will happen tomorrow. While we may have good intent, and even make a habit of planning well – daily decisions depend upon more than our desires – they depend upon the grace of God.

Thus we have to take into consideration that to the extent possible we make plans, but it is the Lord’s ultimate decision as to whether they will be executed…

Go ahead and make all the plans you want, but it’s the Lord who will ultimately direct your steps. Proverbs 16:1 (TPT)

2020-2021 has shown us if nothing else that “our life is in His Hands”. So the moral of this story is to pray, to plan, to believe – and then release it all into the Hands of the One who knows the end from the beginning – find the sweet life- let God navigate your course.
