Instructing Our Young!

As parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers, friends, there is one mission that we all have as believers:

I will teach you hidden lessons from our past—
    stories we have heard and known,
    stories our ancestors handed down to us.
We will not hide these truths from our children;
    we will tell the next generation
about the glorious deeds of the Lord,
    about his power and his mighty wonders…

so the next generation might know them—
    even the children not yet born—
    and they in turn will teach their own children.

So each generation should set its hope anew on God,
    not forgetting his glorious miracles
    and obeying his commands.
Psalm 78:2b-4; 6-7(NLT
)

What we see is a charge from generation to generation to take the lessons learned from their life, taught to them by God, and even the stories that our ancestors have passed down – to tell these things to their children and their children’s children. Why? So that there will be no void in the knowledge of God and HIs mighty works. So that the next generation will have hope for a future that God will walk with them into. So that they will know the commands of the Lord and follow them.

Every generation needs this and no one should be denied the privilege of knowing that there is a God on their side. A God who wants to walk with them, and talk with them, and show them marvelous miracles. To somehow feel as if this is outdated, or something that children should find out on their own is the height of selfishness- and surely should not be named among believers.

A Charge to Keep by Charles Wesley

A charge to keep I have,
A God to glorify,
A never dying soul to save,
And fit it for the sky.

To serve the present age,
My calling to fulfill:
O may it all my powers engage
To do my Master’s will!

Arm me with jealous care,
As in Thy sight to live;
And O Thy servant, Lord, prepare
A strict account to give!

Help me to watch and pray,
And on Thyself rely,
Assured if I my trust betray,
I shall forever die.

Selah!

Maria
