Learning…

It has taken me roughly most of my life to really understand the importance of shutting everything down and just resting. It is probably because I didn’t fully understand the words of our Lord:

Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle, humble, easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me. Matthew 11:29 (TPT)

I am learning that this simple instruction is so true. When you join your life with Christ that is not the end, it is the beginning. It is here that real learning takes place. You learn the ways of Christ and find out that you can appropriate those ways into your life as well. You can be gentle, you can be humble, you can find that it doesn’t take much to please you. And most importantly you will find that there is rest in Him, not forced rest, real rest.

Fortunately, I am in the season of my life when my days of going to a job are over. However, because of who I am I have various projects going all the time and some of them involve real work! However, I find that to be really effective, taking time out to take a day of rest, and just enjoy the peace of knowing that God will take care of all the things that concern me, has been a tremendous boost to my health and well-being.

I’m not going to say that there are days that “try my soul” – there are. However, those days are becoming fewer and further between. I am in a lifelong education course of trusting my Savior. On days like today, I know that my grades are improving. While that means that a possible upgrade is in order, with additional challenges, I do not fear. For the same God who brought me through the last test, will help me this test also.

Yes, there is no doubt if you look or listen to the news that the world is a scary scenario. Yet, as the Psalmist says:

What harm could man do to me? With God on my side, I will not be afraid of what comes. My heart overflows with praise to God and for his promises. I will always trust in him. Psalm 56:11 (TPT)
