We Only Have One to Answer To…
It seems like there is a current push to make us accountable to so many things. People are concerned about how many “likes” they get on FB. There could be a real disaster in someone’s life if someone responds negatively to what they say on Twitter. Increasingly “big brother” is infringing on our constitutional rights to decide what we can do, what we can’t, and what we better do!
There is good news however, if you read the Word of God:
12 For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable. Hebrews 4:12-13 (NLT)
There is only “One” who can see everything there is about us. For there is only One who can see our innermost thoughts and desires. Further, there is only one who to whom we must give full accountability. This is not to say that we break the rules of the road, or don’t pay our taxes. But when it comes to our conduct (aside from breaking laws), others may judge us, but they can’t hold us accountable. Only God knows not only what we do, but the motivation behind why we do what we do.
Many times we don’t even know why we do the things we do. Here is some more good news. We can discover a lot about ourselves if we consistently read the Word of God, for it is “sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow”. The Word of God will speak to our heart and let us know things even our best friend won’t tell us. This helps us not only judge our behavior, but helps us identify when others are trying to put us down, giving unwarranted criticism.
Getting through this life is hard enough, we don’t need to try to follow the leader for the leader probably does not even know where he is going. Just a thought!
