Consistent!
Where are you today on your quest to fulfill your new year’s resolutions? Are you going full steam ahead, or have you hit a wall? Have you already decided that you may need to modify your resolutions to be more realistic, or in keeping with what you are dealing with in your life?
It is wonderful to aim higher, to live better, to do more. The question is can you be consistent?
It is the greatest joy of my life to hear that my children are consistently living their lives in the ways of truth! 3 John 1:4 (TPT)
One of the things that has kept me from bragging on me or my children is the question of consistency. I know that I tend to be on a roll and not only aspire high, but go for it! Yet, there are other times when I can’t seem to get a grip on my day, and spend way too much time in front of the television. While I haven’t written out a list of those things that I would like to accomplish this year – the one thing I know that I want to defeat is spending my time in idle pursuit. This is not the same as taking time to relax. Relaxation, like work should be intentional. We should determine that we are going to spend time doing whatever, or nothing at all, thereby making the most of it. What I suggest is not eliminating relaxation, but eliminating procrastination, or giving in to distractions that are not profitable.
The Apostle Paul had this to say to the Corinthian church:
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 (KJV)
This should be our admonition, I certainly want it to be mine. It is not as important what we are doing, but how we are doing it, and even more importantly are we consistent in doing things to the glory of God. While this may not seem to be one of the Ten Commandments, it certainly is a precept that if followed, will yield us a harvest of good works, without negative effects, heartache, or regrets. Getting into a God-flow of doing what He wants us to do, when He wants us to do it, and how He wants us to do it, on a consistent basis – can you say with me, “it will make us healthy, wealthy, and wise!”
