My Truth, Your Truth – What is Truth!
Yesterday I heard back to back two messages on truth. The essential question was concerning what is truth – not what is a version of the truth, or an opinion of the truth, but what is truth. Jesus had this to say:
Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. John 14;6 (NLT)
and another place ir says:
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 17:17 (KJV)
These two scriptures give reference to the truth of God’s Word – for Jesus was the living Word! In both instances it is not up for debate, or preference for a certain age. The truth that Jesus was from eternity past to eternity present, and likewise God’s Word is the same – “For ever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.” Psalm 119:89 (KJV)
Yet, people are quick to speak that they have “a” truth that they believe. And far too many have come to the consensus that my truth, does not have to be the same as yours. In fact the word of the year for the Oxford dictionary was post-truth – giving credence to the popular belief that feelings were more important than objective facts.
The Apostle John in his epistle had this to say:
3 I was filled with joy and delight when the brothers arrived and informed me of your faithfulness to the truth. They told me how you live continually in the truth of Christ 4 It is the greatest joy of my life to hear that my children are consistently living their lives in the ways of truth! 3 John 1:3-4 (TPT)
John wrote in a day when the truth was not up for debate, nor was it sold on an auction block to the highest bidder. Truth was truth, and if you didn’t speak truth, you spoke lies. The strange thing was that people used to recognize truth. Even if they didn’t live it, they knew what it was.
How far we have come from living out that truth which God established even from the beginning of time. And the most astounding hing is
A horrible and shocking thing
has happened in this land—
31 the prophets give false prophecies,
and the priests rule with an iron hand.
Worse yet, my people like it that way!
But what will you do when the end comes? Jeremiah 5:30-31 (NLT)
Amen Maria speak the truth in love!
