Dead Man Walking – No More!
One of the things that Christians have a hard time with is remembering who they were before Christ. I am not finding fault with that for it is easy to do. After all when you have been lifeless and suddenly come to life, and really begin to live – it’s hard to remember what being dead was like.
In Luke 19 we read of a walking dead man:
8 Zacchaeus was amazed over his gracious visit to his home and joyously welcomed Jesus. Zacchaeus stood in front of the Lord and said, “Half of all that I own I will give to the poor. And Lord, if I have cheated anyone, I promise to pay them back four times as much as I stole.”
9Jesus said to him, “Your repentance shows that today life has come to you and your household, and that you are a true son of Abraham. 10 The Son of Man has come to seek out and to give life to those who are lost. Luke 19:8-10 (TPT)
Zacchaeus is an example of all of us before we come to Christ. We go about our life living the best way we know, or maybe contrary to the way we know is best; but nevertheless it is not the way God would have us to go. When Jesus comes into our presence – conviction comes. We realize that there are things that we’ve been doing wrong without anyone even telling us. When we repent – as the above scripture states, “life has come to you and your household”.
There is no shame or condemnation, for Jesus Himself said, “The Son of man has come to seek out and to give life to those who are lost.” We are no longer a dead man walking, we are alive to life and and all things become new. We tend to forget the past and sometimes that means we lose the feeling of how other dead men walking feel.
This year it would be a good thing to make a conscientious choice to make sure that every dead man walking you come into contact with finds out how he can live!
Maria
