Comfort Food…
Even though we made resolutions to lose weight, when it is this cold outside like it is now in the Midwest, a diet of carrots and celery won’t work. Instead it is time to fix some homemade soup, or stew, or meatloaf – it’s time for comfort food! So too, with the news reports filling us up with wars and rumors of wars, it is time to fill up our soul:
The Lord is my light and my salvation—
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the refuge and fortress of my life—
Whom shall I dread?
2 When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh,
My adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though an army encamp against me,
My heart will not fear;
Though war arise against me,
Even in this I am confident.
4 One thing I have asked of the Lord, and that I will seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life,
To gaze upon the beauty [the delightful loveliness and majestic grandeur] of the Lord
And to meditate in His temple. Psalm 27:1-4 (AMP)
How beautiful this Psalm is. Yet even more beautiful is the assurance that it gives. We don’t have to fear for anything, for enemies, war, disasters, whatever comes – He is with us, we don’t have to fear.. What a wonderful thing to do like the Psalmist and just ask for the simple life like dwelling in the house of the Lord; basking in His creation; sharing in His glory!
What better food is there than this, to feed our soul upon the glorious promises of God!
