Coming to Life!

There are a lot of reasons people are giving as to why they are not going to church. Not to argue the point, there are some advantages they may have missed:

44 All the believers were in fellowship as one body, and they shared with one another whatever they had. 45 Out of generosity they even sold their assets to distribute the proceeds to those who were in need among them. 46 Daily they met together in the temple courts and in one another’s homes to celebrate communion. They shared meals together with joyful hearts and tender humility. 47 They were continually filled with praises to God, enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord kept adding to their number daily those who were coming to life. Acts 2:44-47 (TPT)

Of course the above is a description of the early church and as far as we know there were no plagues like covid going around. However, over the centuries, there have been plagues and deadly outbreaks, but the church was still the church – for many of the things described above have continued through the ages.

While we may not daily meet in the temple courts, or sell our assets so everyone will have things in common, one of the best things about the church is the coming together to hear the Word of God, to join in fellowship and taking communion. Another best thing is having church suppers – nothing like them!

While some of these activities may need to modified and even put on hold, the coming together of believers should never be taken away. Even if we have to do it on a small scale, or with restrictions, we need to be among one another. We need to be able to feel the church and the love that flows from breast to breast.

We are not suggesting that people who are experiencing symptoms of disease or those who have extreme compromised conditions should put themselves or other sin danger, but the work of the church should go on! We must to continue to provide a forum where the living word of God can be expressed, and those who are lost can be led to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. We must continue to provide support for those who are suffering, physically, emotionally, financially – we must be the church, for as this scripture says- when the count is made, the ones who came were those who were “coming to life”.
