What’s On Your Calendar? by Shawn Smith
I know this is the age of technology. We can do almost everything on our smart phones (or IPADs/tablets) from looking at the forecast, watching TV, getting the latest news updates, taking and editing pictures, making flight arrangements and I could go on and on and on. I admit, I love technology and it’s continual advancement is just mind blowing. I thank God for it all the time. At the same time, when it comes to some things I am old school, for example reading books. Some people read their books online, some listen to the books but some, like myself, have to have a hard copy of the book. I’ve tried to read a book via Kindle but it’s just not the same for me. I need the actual book in my hands.
Now, I’m a little different when it comes to calendars. I use the calendar on my phone to remind me of special dates and events, but I write them down as well. I know, it sounds crazy right? I buy a 12 month planner before the new year and it seems as if I’m not alone in this. Many of the stores were out of planners this past December, well at least the stores I visited were. I found a very pretty one that included 3 pages of stickers. It had ‘Important Dates’ pages, ‘Monthly Goals’ pages, ‘Notes’ pages, a ‘Daily Habit Tracker’ section for each month, and a 2023 calendar. The goals and notes pages sealed the deal because I‘m always making ‘to do’ lists and always setting weekly/montlhy goals.
Two of my daily goals are reading the Word of God and praying twice a day. As prayer warriors I know that we pray many times a day, especially when we hear or see something that requires us to call on God right then, or when someone asks us to pray for something or someone. What I’m speaking about is actually getting on my knees, in my prayer room, and spending time with God, talking to Him, listening to Him. These are my top priorities. That hasn’t always been the case but I thank God for shifting my priorities. My relationship with Him is the most important thing in my life. The more I read and study His Word, the more I understand it. The more I understand His Word, the more I apply it to my everyday life. The more I apply it to my life, the closer I get to Him. The closer I get to HIM, the more I want to share Him with others. The more I share Him with others, the more pleased He is with me. And that’s the goal, to hear God say, “Well done thy good and faithful servant” when it’s my time to leave this temporary life on earth.
Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.
Joshua 1:8 NLT
What’s important to you? Is God at the top of your ‘to do’ list or do you have to pencil Him in?
Start now, it’s not too late.
God bless,
Shawn
AMEN! Good instruction Shawn.
