So Will I…

Have you ever read something, or heard a song that you wish you would have written? That the author put into expression every thing you wish you could have said? There are hundreds of words, stories, poems, songs that fit that description for me.  I love when ‘words’ capture an emotion better than any smile, any tear, any emoji ever created.

One such song is “So Will I”, sung by Hillsong United – every line breathes the sentiments I feel about God, yet my capacity to express them falls way short. I would like to take each verse, each bridge, each chorus and comment on it, but I don’t want to have a problem with any copyright laws, so suffice it to say – go to You Tube – listen to it, view the lyrics, it will bless you.

There is the Tag at the end of the song that inspires me today to encourage each of you to never, ever give up on those God puts in your path:

“Like You would again a hundred billion times
But what measure could amount to Your desire
You’re the One who never leaves the one behind.

This portion doesn’t end like the others by saying “So Will I” – but there is no admonition greater in the scriptures than to model that which Jesus did.  Can we say, “so will I?” – never leaving any one behind.; never failing to share what God has done; to pray without ceasing for that one who is resistant to surrendering to God; never failing to love, even the unloveable?

I can’t imagine the thoughts of the writers as they penned the final lines of this remarkable song, however, I can tell you of my struggle – I can tell you that there are times when I can’t say with a pure heart, “so will I”. When hurt feelings, or misunderstanding, or jealousy, keep me from calling out the name of a fellow sojourner. As I listen to this song, and give a “yes’ to so many of the commands, “so will I” – I pray for me to let Jesus grow in me large  that:

To the weak I became [as the] weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men, so that I may by all means [in any and every way] save some [by leading them to faith in Jesus Christ]. 1 Corinthians 9:22 (AMP)
