Post-Resurrection Day!
Resurrection Sunday, 2022 has come and gone. I pray you had an opportunity to recognize afresh the tremendous sacrifice our Lord made for you to enjoy this life. Being set free for our sins brings with it not only a get-out-of-hell pass, it also opens the door for us to have a brand new life:
We have therefore been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory andpower of the Father, we too might walk habitually in newness of life [abandoning our old ways]. Romans 6:4 (AMP)
Yes, through the glory and power of the Father we have been granted an entire new life. The only thing that is asked of us is to “abandon our old ways”. For some this is too much to ask. Yet, what about our old ways helped us? Most of what we engage in prior to coming to faith in Jesus involves things that cause distress, depression, fear, anxiety, sometimes even anger and great sorrow.
Ridding ourselves of the old life ushers in the fruit of the Spirit:
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)
These fruit bring us a life of peace and joy – seeing the goodness of life and the people in our life. We no longer have to be mad, sad, and depressed. We can enjoy each new day with a hope that the God we serve has good things in store of us – “for HIs mercies are new every morning” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
Let us not look at Resurrection Sunday as just a day when Jesus rose from the dead, rather see it for what else happened – when Jesus conquered death, hell, and the grave – He ushered in for us eternal life – which beings the day we receive the finished work of Calvary.
