The Only Way We Can Do IT!

We all know once we become a Christian that it is expected of us to live a different kind of life. Even sinners know that there are certain things expected of us, and they are usually quick to point it out when we are caught in a fault. Yet, how can we avoid the temptations of this life? How can focus our lives to such an extent that we avoid falling into the traps of sin?

Romans 13:14 tells us:

But clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for [nor even think about gratifying] the flesh in regard to its improper desires. (AMP)

This scripture sums up the remedy. We have to “clothe ourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ”. How do we do that? Just like you wake up in the morning and your thoughts may turn to what is the weather going to be, or I wonder what is happening in the world? When those questions fill your mind, you automatically turn to the television or radio or internet to give you the answers. The only thing is when you use any one of these mediums, you’re probably going to get more than you bargained for.

If we are going to clothe ourselves with the Lord Jesus we have to turn to His Word first thing in the morning, we have to seek Him in prayer, we have to talk to Him and let Him talk to us. When we do that it gives us a ‘homecourt advantage‘. He rises up in our heart. The second thing we have to do is to “make no provision for the flesh…in regard to its’ improper desires”. If we are willing to admit it, most of the trouble we get in is because we think on it so much that we in essence plan “falling into sin“.

No one that tells the truth is going to tell you that this life in Christ is always easy. There are some times when it takes everything you can muster up in your faith to stomp the devil down. However, by “putting on the Lord Jesus” we have the covering to protect us, as long as we don’t decide to take Him off!
