How Long?
Recent news has shown increased attacks against the church – even while they are in session. People feel nothing about desecrating the building that the church is housed in. Some even have decided that shooting pastors and congregants is somehow furthering their cause. A pastor was killed over a road rage incident. Should we be surprised when a Subway employee got killed for putting too much mayonnaise on a sandwich?
When I ran across this passage, I had to make it a prayer:
While your people were at worship, your enemies barged in,
brawling and scrawling graffiti.
They set fire to the porch;
axes swinging, they chopped up the woodwork,
Beat down the doors with sledgehammers,
then split them into kindling.
They burned your holy place to the ground,
violated the place of worship.
They said to themselves, “We’ll wipe them all out,”
and burned down all the places of worship. Psalm 74:4-8 (MSG)
It used to be a time when the church was sacred. It used to be a time when, although there has always been violence, people that served were not viewed as enemies.
What has caused this horrific onslaught of terror – gunmen going into classroom and shooting children en masse? Perhaps we find an answer here:
And shed innocent blood,
Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters,
Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan;
And the land was polluted with their blood. Psalm106:38
While you are listening to the evening news describing all the reasons why the Supreme Court ruled that there is no constitutional right to abortion, perhaps looking at scriptures like these might bring light as to why it was necessary for our nation to survive.
Maria
Great word Maria! Love this! You’re right there was a time that things were sacred life, family, church etc. We need to repent, to have a “come to Jesus” moments and a Great Awakening.
