Just A Thought…
Most off us spend a lot of time thinking. Our thoughts, left to themselves can take us all kinds of places. It has been said that we can’t help what birds fly over our head, but we don’t have let them build a nest. This is so true about our thought life. What we dwell on can not only build a nest, it can build a development:
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 (KJV)
When we purpose to think on things that are true, things that are honest, things that are just and pure and lovely – what a difference this makes in our lives. It is not an easy thing to do, because we have a vulture in the name of satan who constantly wants to bring forth something that is ugly or sad or even mean.
Choosing what we think about and how long we think about it helps us to build the kind of development that has a strong foundation and study floors. It moves us into using our talents and skills to produce good things, wholesome things, productive things. It motivates us to be an encourager to other people, to maybe even lighten someone’s load and/or help them move forward. By thinking about those things in Philippians 4 we honor God.
More than that it has natural benefits. It helps relieve hypertension, and other physical ailments. It puts a pep in our step, and joy bells ringing in our heart. Isn’t that worth thinking on “these things”?
