A Bird’s Eye View!

As long as we stay down on this earth and have only a linear view of the landscape, it might be easy to get discouraged- depending on where you are. For example if you are in the heart of an urban center and all you see for blocks around are buildings in bad repair, glass and litter on the streets, barren yards and not even a grocery store, it would be easy to say there is much to life. However, when you begin to rise above the clouds and get a better than bird’s eye view of just a little of what created, you change your tune. You say like the Psalmist:

When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? Psalm 8:3-4 (KJV)

Ascending into the heavens puts things into perspective. You recognize that no matter how advanced technology becomes, it can’t Create the heavens, the moon and the stars. If you are honest, you have to admit that man can’t create the miraculous event that occurs when a single sperm out of thousands meets an egg and creates human life. You realize that it takes someone much bigger than you and I.

Yet, man continues to flaunt himself as being his own god, master of his own destiny. He parades around as if he has the power to decide his birth and death, and that of others. This thought is so pervasive that it seems as if it will take over, yet I know with every flower that blooms in spring, with every tree that sheds its’ leaves in the fall, that indeed what God said is true:

21 And the Lord smelled a sweet savour; and the Lord said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease. Genesis 8:21-22 (KJV)

He is surely a merciful God.
