We Have to Understand the Times…

Daily I listen to people try to make sense of the days we are living in. Most people seem to take the opinions of the commentators on the news as being factual. Few consider that perhaps they are not reporting the news but creating the news.

I am not trying to purport a conspiracy theory, rather as I was reading a scripture the other day it got me thinking:

Of the tribe of Issachar, men who understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do, two hundred chiefs; and all their relatives were at their command; 1 Chronicles 12:32 (AMP)

It is interesting to me that of all the tribes mentioned and their accomplishments, the tribe of Issachar was pointed out as “men who understood the times”. I believe that this is significant because not everyone understands the times, or has knowledge of what to do.

So many scriptures tell us to get wisdom. One such scripture is Ephesians 5:15-17(AMP):

15 Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people], 16 making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish and thoughtless, but understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is.

The above scripture seems to hold the secret to understanding the times. When we walk in the above manner, determining that we want to know the truth and taking advantage of opportunities to seek after truth – and fully and completely seeking God to understand what the will of the Lord is for our lives-then we will be like the sons of Issachar, we will understand the times and walk fearlessly on the earth fulfilling our mission and helping others see clearly to fulfill theirs as well.
