I Am Who God Says I Am!
There are some of us by virtue of our human nature who don’t see ourselves in a very good light. Whether from past insecurities or failures, or just because we never were able to achieve an appropriate level of confidence, we shrink from believing that we have anything to offer this world. This is the kind of man that Gideon was. He felt insignificant in the scheme of things and was afraid for his life and the life of his family, for he felt that God had delivered them into the hand of the Midianites. Yet, this is what the angel of the Lord spoke to him:
16 The Lord answered him, “I will certainly be with you, and you will strike down the Midianites as [if they were only] one man.” Judges 6:16 (AMP)
Gideon had yet to learn that when you have God on your side, it is no contest for the other side – out they will go!
Those of us familiar with the story know that is exactly what happened. God shrunk the army that Gideon gathered down from 32,000 men to 300 – and with that 300 the Midianites were defeated! As the old saints used to say, “God’s ways are past finding out”! If God tells you that you can do it, then YOU CAN DO IT!
All of us must learn that with God nothing is impossible, that we are who He says we are. That does mean that the confidant and over-zealous can run out and do great and mighty things on their own. The power with Gideon was not within Gideon, it was Gideon empowered by God!
Yes, it is good to affirm our children, even to affirm ourselves with our God-given stature as a human being, created in His image and likeness with gifts and callings that are without repentance. However, all that we are or ever hope to be is nothing without God. We may succeed for a season, but lasting strength and power, and the overcoming ability to do great things – comes from our Heavenly Father, and the wise man knows this!
